Also I saw Terminator Salvation today.
So basically everyone and their dog is making this movie out to be completely horrible. I thought it was decent and much better than expected. It certainly had it's share of problems, but it was by no means horrible.

Things I Liked:

ANTON YELCHIN as Kyle Reese - Holy cow he totally owned this movie for me. He had me at "Come with me if you want to live." I could have done with much, much more of him in the film. Between this and his Chekov in Star Trek, I'm really looking forward to more from this guy.

Marcus Wright - I thought his character was kinda interesting. His dramatic "I'm a man!" thing was well done I thought.

Seeing the other Terminators - I loved the motorcycle ones.

The action scenes - Kyle and Marcus running from the giant one and the motorcycles was just awesome.

Things I Didn't Like:

John Conner felt very shoe-horned in - In the first half of the movie when they were going back and forth between Kyle & Marcus and John Conner... all my interest was with Kyle and Marcus. Their scenes were fun, action packed, and interesting while the cuts back to John were just boring and pulled me back out of it a bit. I think the film would have been just as good if not better without the John Conner character.

The middle section - I didn't care for the middle section between Kyle being captured by Skynet and Marcus ending up at John's base. The Blair character was very bland and the whole "oh noes theys gonna rape her" scene was just blegh.

The way too convenient ending - Through the whole thing you knew nothing was going to happen to Kyle while was he was at Skynet headquarter since the very set up of the Terminator world is John Conner's existence. So clearly Kyle couldn't die before going back in time to become his father. You also knew nothing was going to happen to John because hello... he's the main character now. When the T-800 rammed the beam through his chest I got a "Holy shit do they have the balls to kill of John Conner?!" thought. They didn't, of course, but I thought the whole "John's heart can't make it... but wait! Marcus has a heart and he doesn't want to be a machine!" thing was just way too... vanilla. I did like the scene where John gave Kyle the jacket and when Star took Marcus's cybernetic hand though.

On the subject of the T-800s I will say this... I saw some talk about how without Arnold the fun was gone. I don't think he was needed or missed. I thought what was done with the T-800 was well done and just the right amount of wink to the audience without it turning into a "OMG LOOK AT ARNOLD" thing. And while he didn't say anything, I did like the use of the CGI face to make him look like he did in the original.

All in all, the movie does have flaws... mostly in script and story, but the film actually looks great and was a decent summer action flick. I actually would be open to a fifth Terminator movie... provided there's more Anton Yelchin, of course.

EDIT: OMG HOW DID I NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE BALE IN THIS? Probably because he did nothing for me in this movie. The Bale felt so very generic. At least there's Public Enemies.
