So I went to Paris (Texas) yesterday and ended up doing some shopping. I bought some new jeans and a few shirts, a new purse (it's purple and spiffy~) and I ended up getting my 2010 calendar. I went with The Beatles over House this time... mostly because I couldn't find a House one at Hastings. It has some nice pictures of the early Beatles with a few from later on for the last couple of months. I just like that it has the spiff umbrella picture for May.

We're going to Texarkana tomorrow to go shoe shopping since the shoe stores in Paris suck.

I only have class three days this week, but I think I'm gonna try and work on Thursday and Friday just for the extra hours on my paycheck.

I've also go to go to Oklahoma City on the 19 and 20 for the state BPA Fall Conference. I'm kind of excited about going since there's going to a kind of small group and I really like just about everyone that's going. Plus it means more shopping~.

I've been trying to work on my Christmas list, but all I have so far is an iPod dock with an alarm clock and The Beatles Remastered Box Set... and that's about it. There's not really anything else I'm dying to have at the moment. Maybe something will strike my fancy before then.

I also got my paid journal back. Finally. I spent part of the morning hunting up icons and I'm up to about 30 I think.

New TV season!!!!

Community - I haven't seen last night's episode, but I did love the pilot. What can I say? I love Joel McHale.

Modern Family - Funniest new series. I don't even know how many times I laughed at this. I really need to see it again cause I know I missed some jokes.

Cougar Town - I wasn't gonna watch this one, but I decided to go ahead and round out the hour with ABC and I must say I was surprised. I do enjoy Courtney Cox so I imagine that helped, but Busy Phillipps and the kid playing Cox's son were the best parts.

Flash Forward - Hello sexytimes. The entire pilot was like sexy sexytimes. Joseph Fiennes and John Cho walking around all srs faced and injured and then the epic Jack Davenport tease! Curse you, ABC!

House - I thought the premiere was pretty darn good. Hugh Laurie did an awesome job and had a massive =D on my face during Wilson's scene. Didn't care much for the "romance" subplot. The spoilers for upcoming episodes have me more excited though. (So much Wilson goodness coming.) Though I must say I'm still over the whole Huddy thing and I honestly remain unaffected by the announcement that Jennifer Morrison is leaving. (There will be hell to pay if RSL ever decides to leave though.)

Well I made it through my first full week of work. It went well. I was a bit worn out by Friday, but part of that is work, being a full time student/worker (I was part time last year), dealing with BPA stuff, and starting medical coding.

I'm still happy that all the teachers on our end of the building like me. =)

I also found out Thursday that I'm Student of the Month for October. =)

In other news... saw Wolverine last night. Oh so many things to make me rage (what the hell was the point in hyping up the cast when they all lasted about 10 minutes?) And don't even get me started on Deadpool... or even Emma Frost for that matter (and I don't even care for Emma.) Naked Hugh Jackman made up for a lot though. A lot.

Spent the other night watching clips from Beatles: Rock Band and holy wow that is one pretty game. The presentation is just gorgeous. I think my favorite that I saw is Hello Goodbye because they put in the silly dancing. Oh the silly dancing...

I just realized I didn't talk about the VMAs and I feel I should at least mention that I had a giant, goofy smile on my through Muse's entire performance. I thought it was awesome and I love that they kept going and played for the people who were at their venue. (Though MTV teasing Starlight was a bitch move.)

I'm also stupidly excited for the Emmys tonight. I blame Neil Patrick Harris. I hope he knocks it out of the park. (I also want to see Hugh Laurie get some love tonight...)

And speaking of Hugh Laurie... House season premiere is tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the asylum, but I really only care about what's gonna happen after that. I sense massive amounts of Wilson goodness coming my way soon and that always, always makes me happy.

This just in: The Resistance is amazing.

Sure a couple of tracks are a little weak, but the strong tracks more than make up for them. And sure the sound has is different, but when have they ever sounded the same from album to album? There's always a change.

All in all... great album. Might just give Absolution a run for it's money as my favorite in the long run.

I just hope we don't have to wait another three years for the next one.

Okay... so... random babble time...

I have a confession to make... I spent roughly the first 24.3 years of my life not being a fan of The Beatles.

I didn't hate them or anything like that. They just weren't my thing. I knew who they were. I knew what they did. I knew what happened to them. I knew why they were important. I could name all four of them. If I were ever randomly called up by a radio station and asked to name a dozen Beatles songs off the top of my head I could probably do it without thinking. I was enough of a passing fan to be interested in the idea of The Beatles: Rock Band. But I just didn't get it.

Then a few days ago VH1 did it's usual Rock Band thing and went into promotion overload. Suddenly it was Beatles songs mixed in with the morning video blocks and VH1 Classic jumped into the arms of Beatlemania by doing "9 Days of The Beatles" where they're showing movies, makings of, concerts, and whatnot.

Last Tuesday they showed Help!. I decided to watch it.

I wasn't expecting to like it. I was just expecting to have something fill my time for two hours while I wait for the fall television season to cure my evening boredom. But somewhere between the scene where Ringo falls out of bed and when they sing "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" I was hooked. I suddenly got "it." I got what everyone else had been getting all these years. I don't know what it was exactly, but I was left with a feeling of completely missing out on something for a very long time.

After that I took to VH1 Classic's Beatlemania like it was my own. I was watching every night. I started listening to the music. It was within record time that I completely and totally fell in love with this band and instantly became heartbroken knowing what happened to them.

And now less than a week (and 300+ plays) into my own personal (and VH1 Classic's) Beatlemaina... I have to say I'm quite enjoying it. I don't know if I have a favorite Beatle yet. Though I do seem to be quite partial to George... and John... and Ringo... and Paul...

So I signed up to do work-study at school. Basically it means I drop back to half-time in class and spend the other three hours working at the school. I'll mainly be doing teacher help, but there are times when I might be put in the office to help out. I won't start till sometime after the board meeting on the 8th though.

Class is going good. I've finished two chapters and did a two day medical office simulation and I'm currently in the middle of my first bit of transcription. Both morning and afternoon classes have filled up, but so far everyone seems really eager to do stuff. I've already had one new girl say she's interested in competing at state.

We also had elections for our BPA chapter. Since our class is technically two classes (morning and afternoon) we do two sets of officers. I was elected President for the afternoon class (since I'll be working in the mornings.) I'm really excited about it. I've never held an office in anything before so it's slightly nerve-wracking. Thankfully our teacher is awesome and I'm also good friends with the morning president (in fact we sit right next to each other.)

I gave blood on Thursday. This was the first time I've done it since high school. I got a t-shirt and tickets to the OKC zoo which I gave to a lady in class who has little ones at home.

In other news... Saw the season finale of Being Human last night. I really like how the series turned out overall. I think it's my new favorite vampire/fantasy TV series. George is easily my new favorite werewolf.

Still counting down the days till The Resistance comes out and I'm still on Muse overload. I do enjoy the Matt wallpaper on my computer at school though. It's very spiffy. Speaking of spiffy things... even if you don't like Muse you have to admit the shuffle dance is quite spiffy. Just look at that timing.

Oh and I finally broke 100 wpm typing speed~.

So school started on Wednesday. I'm a full time student this year (I was only part time last year.) We finally hammered out exactly what I need to do this year and when it needs to be done so that there are no snafus with financial aid.

Basically I'm finishing out what I'm currently training for (Medical Office Assistant) and I have to be finished with the last two sections before the beginning of December. Then I'll just straight into Administrative Medical Office and pick up medical transcription and coding to finish out the year.

A lot of last year's people came back this year so I already know most of the people in class. We're planning on putting our Administrative Support Team back together and trying state competition again (we all really want to go to Nationals in Anaheim), but one person didn't come back so we'll have to find someone to fill in or try it as a three person team.

In other news... I didn't manage to get caught up on True Blood, but I'll get there eventually. It's not like I get HBO anyway so I can't catch up and then watch it on TV.

I saw 17 Again last night. I was expecting to not really care for it (it's all been done before in various ways), but I was really surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it. Thomas Lennon was just amazing (and fuck you Comedy Central for canceling Reno 911!). I was also surprised by how much I actually liked Zac Efron. He was actually pretty good and quite charming. (And I will admit it... quite attractive.)
queendork56: (Default)
I got a call from my teacher today telling me that I made in this year and that classes start on the 12th. I actually get to go full time this year which means I'll actually have time to work on stuff. I'm looking forward to telling everyone how Nationals went and start the poking early to get people wanting to go next year.

I watched The Soloist and Sense and Sensibility last night. The Soloist wasn't bad. I admit that I was mostly on board for Robert Downey, Jr. and he did not disappoint. Sense and Sensibility was very good. I watched the 1995 version with Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman. I'm not huge on Alan Rickman usually, but UNF I say... UNF. Loved Hugh Laurie as Mr. Palmer.

On the True Blood front I'm up through episode five of season two. Jason has officially become my favorite character. I was won over when he turned and looked out the window after what's-his-face said "there's a war going on out there." And "Evil is the premedicated choice to be a dick." might just be the best line ever. I'm planning on being caught up soon and then it's onto 30 Rock.

Also Muse's new single is awesome. I cannot wait for September.

Leverage - I marathoned this via Netflix's instant watch thing... TV show shouldn't be this fun. =D Fun characters, people getting what they deserve, Gina Bellman... all TV shows should be this fun. It also helps that every episode involves Christian Kane hitting people which seems to vastly improve my day.

True Blood - I've made it through two episodes so far and while I have some issues I think I'll keep going. The accents are pretty horrible. Anna Paquin still can't act her way out of a paper bag. Bill and Sookie are still a snoozefest. But the guy who is playing Jason is oh-so-pretty and frequently naked. That's more than enough for me. Plus there's Eric who I still haven't gotten to yet. I really don't care for Tara in the series. Maybe I misread the handful of scenes she had in second and third books (or maybe it's something that comes up later in the series), but why is she such a bitch to everyone? Or maybe it's that grating accent that just makes it seem worse. I don't know, but it's old already. I do like what they did with Lafayette though. He was such a non-character in the first book and very not good things happened to him in the second, but I like what they've done with his expansion.

I think my biggest disappointment comes from scanning the cast list on IMDb and seeing that they've seem to cut two of my favorite side characters - Bubba and JB. How they can they cut out the King? And we need JB just so there can be more hot guys running around. =(
queendork56: (Default)
Torchwood: Children of Earth - I don't know if I liked this or not. I really don't. On the one hand... the mini-series format works so much better than their usual formula, but on the other hand... lots of NO.

Being Human - What's this? A series about vampires/werewolves where I don't have the overwhelming urge to light someone on fire? (Well okay I kinda wanna light Lauren on fire, but still...) Everyone should be watching this... if only for George.

Watchmen - So what exactly was the point of changing the ending, again? I know part of it had to have been "well that's kind of stupid" but the movie ending was just as stupid. I must say that I did quite enjoy the guy who played Rorschach. I also quite enjoyed Patrick Wilson as Dan. I didn't think he was gonna work, but he did for me. (Zac Synder can take his stupid slo-mo uber-violence and DIAF though.)

Comic-con - Why is this the year that everyone awesome decided to go to Comic-con?! Super excited to hear that the Iron Man 2 footage went over well. I'm also excited to hear that Marvel is gonna chill out on the massive crossover events (which still sounds like "we're trying to fix everything before The Avengers comes out.) Not as excited to hear that Pym/Ant-Man doesn't seem to be part of it though. The Iron Man anime teaser looked awesome while the Wolverine one looked not as awesome. Marvel's new cartoon project has an awesome cast (and involved Hawkeye! Yay Hawkeye!) but I can't help but wish they were doing an animated version of Mini-Marvels instead.

I don't quite know how I feel about Dominic Monaghan joining the cast of Flashforward, but do know that I'm super excited to have John Cho and Jack Davenport on my TV every week.

Also Legion can be the shittiest movie in all of existence for all I care... I saw the poster and I'm completely sold.

Also also... call me crazy, but I kinda like the 11th Doctor's outfit. It's quite spiffy.
queendork56: (Default)
Royal Pains was surprisingly fun. I really enjoy Paulo Costanzo for some reason. Divya was the best character though. She's cute and smart. I don't know if it can keep my interested in the long run though.

I also caught the first episode of Nurse Jackie, Showtime's new series. It was running on The 101 (DirecTV's channel) and I needed to fill time. I don't know exactly how I feel about it. I did have a nice smirk on my face regarding the end of the episode though. It also contained surprise Peter Facinelli (who I love and totally forgive for being in Twilight. He's got three daughters. I get it.) He wasn't blonde and was kind of adorable even though he was playing a bit of an ass.

Also The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien needs a mention. I was so worried that he'd dial it back a little too much and lose some of his goofy charm, but he didn't. Even the theme song is still there. I'm so over the moon. It's wonderful. (Also go Joel McHale for being a first week guest. Awesome.)

I rarely actively seek it out. I enjoy getting it at times though. I always feel like a glory-hog or something when I actively seek it.

I got roped into watching fairly meh movies last night. I can never decide if I like Anne Hathaway or not. I'll see her in one thing and enjoy her and then see her in something else and be annoyed by her. I'm also starting to really enjoy Patrick Wilson, though I'm still baffled by casting him as Dan in Watchmen.

Also what are the odds of watching two completely unrelated movies with basically the same twist back to back? Cause that happened last night and it was kinda weird.

Class trip tomorrow! Yay! But we're not going to the movies anymore. Boo.

Also also... they've apparently cast Thor (the guy who played Kirk's dad in Star Trek) and I can actually see him working. I really hope they go the Don Blake route and not the Ultimate Thor route. (Hot doctor with a cane and a sexy nurse > Guy with a beard who everyone thinks is crazy and his Barbie jailbait.) In fact his picture here really looks like Don Blake.

Now if they can just cast Captain America so I can stop freaking out. =(

P.S. Fanbabble about Booster Gold on Batman: Brave the Bold later.

The great Catch Up On The Good TV I've Been Missing fest of 2009 is now officially starting. First up I'm gonna go with Mad Men and 30 Rock.

I've been interested in Mad Men for quite a while now, but for some reason I've been putting it off. I mean it has massive positive reviews and the extreme sexiness of Jon Hamm... but still I drag my feet. I think the big reason is because it's such a straight up drama. I caught the first episode back in December and really enjoyed it. Don is quite an interesting character (and also totally dreamy) and I was surprised by how much I liked Peggy. I want to be caught up by the time season 3 starts so I can watch it week by week.

I've also been meaning to catch up on 30 Rock for two years now. I figure pairing a series that I know is funny (at least from what I've seen of it) with the straight up drama of Mad Men will give me a nice balance and hopefully keep me interested in both. (Plus it also has Jon Hamm...)

After that I need to catch up on Supernatural, True Blood, and this season of How I Met Your Mother. I'd also like to restart Desperate Housewives since it really is a great guilty pleasure. I'd like to see Gossip Girl but I dunno...

So basically...
Now: Mad Men & 30 Rock
Then: Supernatural & How I Met Your Mother
Later: True Blood

Jerry Bruckheimer better be really, really thankful that Jake Gyllenhaal has amazing abs.

Like really, really, really thankful... he should probably send them a thank you note.

So there are a couple of things to wtf over, but this is my biggest question: Why hasn't Tsuna realized that Haru is super hot? For that matter... why hasn't anyone realized that she's super hot?

Look at her... with the long hair... she looks totally awesome. And not only that but she's still completely fucking adorable. How has Tsuna not realized that Kyoko has nothing on her? (Well she does have her beat in the "awesome family members" category, but not in anything else!)

Stupid boys. >=(

RE: Question of the Day

Twilight = NO Please stop talking about this overhyped crap. (I'm talking to you, Entertainment Weekly. Seriously... stop sucking off Twilight, EW.)

Whoo for Thanksgiving break! Today was the last day of school for the month. I'm glad. We've been doing telephone etiquette training for the last two weeks and we've had the county high school touring and the students participating in the phone practice. Talk about stressful for me. I passed my phone certification though and I totally aced all three in class tests on it. Whoo for me!

I feel like the ice is finally broken in class. I feel more comfortable talking to my classmates now. I was nominated for replacement parliamentarian for our BPA, but I lost (which was good cause I didn't want it anyway.) I'm trucking right along in my work. I've got four certifications done in two months so I'm feeling pretty good. I'm working on office procedures at the moment.

Went and bought Wall-E and Tropic Thunder yesterday. (Oh! I also got my financial aid check yesterday so whoo!) I haven't watched Wall-E yet, but Tropic Thunder was awesome. Best fucking Tom Cruise movie ever. Robert Downey, Jr. was completely awesome. (Loved the fake trailer for Satan's Alley. Wonder Boys will forever make me laugh now that RDJ and Tobey MaGuire are Tony Stark and Peter Parker. Also note to self: Get RDJ icons.)

I also saw Kung-Fu Panda last weekend. I was surprisingly shocked by it. Dreamworks did an awesome job with it. The action scenes were great. They're really stepping up their game. I just wish they didn't want to make a sequel to every single one of their animated films (though I do want to see Madagascar 2.) Also Monsters vs. Aliens looks fun. (Can it plz be 2009 so I can do the 100 movie thingy?)

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we're having a housewarming party on Sunday. Plus I'm going to my aunt's company Christmas party next month. So much going on. Though it's a vast improvement over how much was going on last year.

Anyway... food time... then adorable robot movie time.

P.S. Satellite Internet fucking sucks.

To peace...

So my mom passed away on April 6th. It's been rough. I moved in with my aunt and her boyfriend and things are kinda bumpy every now and then. I'm not up for writing a lot about it right now though.

My birthday is tomorrow. I'll be 23. Ugh. I'm not looking forward to it.

I went to see Iron Man last night. It's the first time I've been to see a movie in the theater since Batman Begins. (I sorta gave up on going to the movies since I rarely seemed to come out feeling like the movie I had just seen was worth the ticket price.) I have to say that I was not disappointed. Iron Man was just awesome. Easily one of the best comic book movies I've seen. The whole thing just worked together so well. Robert Downey Jr. was just amazing (I love him) and I think that was what made the movie just an enjoyable ride. I'd love to go and see it again. (Also the trailer for The Dark Knight was awesome. Cannot wait for that movie.)
