Well I made it through my first full week of work. It went well. I was a bit worn out by Friday, but part of that is work, being a full time student/worker (I was part time last year), dealing with BPA stuff, and starting medical coding.

I'm still happy that all the teachers on our end of the building like me. =)

I also found out Thursday that I'm Student of the Month for October. =)

In other news... saw Wolverine last night. Oh so many things to make me rage (what the hell was the point in hyping up the cast when they all lasted about 10 minutes?) And don't even get me started on Deadpool... or even Emma Frost for that matter (and I don't even care for Emma.) Naked Hugh Jackman made up for a lot though. A lot.

Spent the other night watching clips from Beatles: Rock Band and holy wow that is one pretty game. The presentation is just gorgeous. I think my favorite that I saw is Hello Goodbye because they put in the silly dancing. Oh the silly dancing...

I just realized I didn't talk about the VMAs and I feel I should at least mention that I had a giant, goofy smile on my through Muse's entire performance. I thought it was awesome and I love that they kept going and played for the people who were at their venue. (Though MTV teasing Starlight was a bitch move.)

I'm also stupidly excited for the Emmys tonight. I blame Neil Patrick Harris. I hope he knocks it out of the park. (I also want to see Hugh Laurie get some love tonight...)

And speaking of Hugh Laurie... House season premiere is tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the asylum, but I really only care about what's gonna happen after that. I sense massive amounts of Wilson goodness coming my way soon and that always, always makes me happy.

So school started on Wednesday. I'm a full time student this year (I was only part time last year.) We finally hammered out exactly what I need to do this year and when it needs to be done so that there are no snafus with financial aid.

Basically I'm finishing out what I'm currently training for (Medical Office Assistant) and I have to be finished with the last two sections before the beginning of December. Then I'll just straight into Administrative Medical Office and pick up medical transcription and coding to finish out the year.

A lot of last year's people came back this year so I already know most of the people in class. We're planning on putting our Administrative Support Team back together and trying state competition again (we all really want to go to Nationals in Anaheim), but one person didn't come back so we'll have to find someone to fill in or try it as a three person team.

In other news... I didn't manage to get caught up on True Blood, but I'll get there eventually. It's not like I get HBO anyway so I can't catch up and then watch it on TV.

I saw 17 Again last night. I was expecting to not really care for it (it's all been done before in various ways), but I was really surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it. Thomas Lennon was just amazing (and fuck you Comedy Central for canceling Reno 911!). I was also surprised by how much I actually liked Zac Efron. He was actually pretty good and quite charming. (And I will admit it... quite attractive.)

Today has not been a good day.

It started out well. I woke up and TCM was doing a Cary Grant marathon. I watched My Favorite Wife and The Awful Truth. Then my aunt decided to mow and asked me to let one of the dogs out. Our other dog takes off in the woods when you let her out of the yard, so I was holding her while I opened the fence (like I always freaking do) and she slammed into the fence which shoved it back over my big toe and ripped the nail up.

It is bad. (Feels bad anyway.) It finally stopped hurting a while ago and now I've just got to not hit it on anything (which is like trying to tell water to stop being wet.)

School is back on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to it. I really hope to be caught up on True Blood by then. I only have a handful of episodes left.

Bah... this entry feels short.

I got a call from my teacher today telling me that I made in this year and that classes start on the 12th. I actually get to go full time this year which means I'll actually have time to work on stuff. I'm looking forward to telling everyone how Nationals went and start the poking early to get people wanting to go next year.

I watched The Soloist and Sense and Sensibility last night. The Soloist wasn't bad. I admit that I was mostly on board for Robert Downey, Jr. and he did not disappoint. Sense and Sensibility was very good. I watched the 1995 version with Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman. I'm not huge on Alan Rickman usually, but UNF I say... UNF. Loved Hugh Laurie as Mr. Palmer.

On the True Blood front I'm up through episode five of season two. Jason has officially become my favorite character. I was won over when he turned and looked out the window after what's-his-face said "there's a war going on out there." And "Evil is the premedicated choice to be a dick." might just be the best line ever. I'm planning on being caught up soon and then it's onto 30 Rock.

Also Muse's new single is awesome. I cannot wait for September.

Torchwood: Children of Earth - I don't know if I liked this or not. I really don't. On the one hand... the mini-series format works so much better than their usual formula, but on the other hand... lots of NO.

Being Human - What's this? A series about vampires/werewolves where I don't have the overwhelming urge to light someone on fire? (Well okay I kinda wanna light Lauren on fire, but still...) Everyone should be watching this... if only for George.

Watchmen - So what exactly was the point of changing the ending, again? I know part of it had to have been "well that's kind of stupid" but the movie ending was just as stupid. I must say that I did quite enjoy the guy who played Rorschach. I also quite enjoyed Patrick Wilson as Dan. I didn't think he was gonna work, but he did for me. (Zac Synder can take his stupid slo-mo uber-violence and DIAF though.)

Comic-con - Why is this the year that everyone awesome decided to go to Comic-con?! Super excited to hear that the Iron Man 2 footage went over well. I'm also excited to hear that Marvel is gonna chill out on the massive crossover events (which still sounds like "we're trying to fix everything before The Avengers comes out.) Not as excited to hear that Pym/Ant-Man doesn't seem to be part of it though. The Iron Man anime teaser looked awesome while the Wolverine one looked not as awesome. Marvel's new cartoon project has an awesome cast (and involved Hawkeye! Yay Hawkeye!) but I can't help but wish they were doing an animated version of Mini-Marvels instead.

I don't quite know how I feel about Dominic Monaghan joining the cast of Flashforward, but do know that I'm super excited to have John Cho and Jack Davenport on my TV every week.

Also Legion can be the shittiest movie in all of existence for all I care... I saw the poster and I'm completely sold.

Also also... call me crazy, but I kinda like the 11th Doctor's outfit. It's quite spiffy.

So someone posted to [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek about seeing the film with their dad and both of them tearing up and it really got me thinking and bummed me out a bit.

I am incredibly sad that I cannot see this movie with my mom. And that I can't see anything with her anymore. I can't geek out with her anymore.

I also realized that she had a hand in an insane amount of my fandoms.

She introduced me to pretty much every science fiction/fantasy series/movie I've ever loved. Let's just look at the ones I can remember: Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess... I know there's more. I just can't think of them!

I started rewatching season three of Heroes and while it's better than season two, I'm not enjoying it nearly as much and I've finally figured out the reason. I'm not watching it with her. We watched Heroes together and came up with our theories and tried to figure everything out and snark on Claire and Peter and perv a little over Nathan. Heck that was all the fun of Lost too. Trying to figure out everything together.

Thinking of that reminds me of a summer where we had a shitload of fun with a mystery. There was a soap opera on NBC awhile back called Passions and one summer they had a big overarching mystery plot. I remember both of us trying to figure out who did it. We even had a freaking chart hanging on the wall to mark out suspects. I don't remember who did it, but I remember us debating on suspects.

I've noticed that series like CSI has lost it's spark with me as well... I think part of that is that I've lost the fun it used to have fingering who did it and making fun of all the suspects.

I think she also played a large part in my love of slash (and even if she didn't I'm gonna blame her.) We always had the computer in the living room. I remember her watching Queer as Folk on TV as it was premiering and being really weirded out. I mean what the hell this is my mom watching what is kinda gay porn on TV in the same room with me. That lasted for about a season and then I just gave up and started watching it with her. (She also totally got me into Torchwood by being all "Oh yeah Jack is a little bisexual." I remember her actually cheering when Jack and Ianto kissed for the first time. Geez fangirl much, mom?)

This all also makes me wonder if the reason I latched onto House so hard is because it was something that we didn't share. We never watched House together. Never even thought about watching it. I didn't see my first episode till after I was living with my aunt. I also wonder if it's coincidence that the very first episode of House I ever saw was "Who's Your Daddy?" which had a PotW with her name, Leona.

TL;DR Version: I really miss watching things with my mom. Geeking out over TV and movies with her were really some of my best times.

WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME, ROBERT DOWNEY, JR.? WHY? I ONLY WANT TO LOVE YOU. D=

I WATCHED BOWFINGER FOR YOU!

I EVEN WATCHED FUR FOR YOU!

BUT YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME!

Link

Oh who am I kidding? I'll still end up watching you... but I won't enjoy it!

Though I wasn't too gung-ho on Jude Law as Watson before (mostly because I'm not too gung-ho on Jude Law period), but for some reason I kinda liked the bitchy scene... *feels weird*

[Error: unknown template qotd]
I rarely actively seek it out. I enjoy getting it at times though. I always feel like a glory-hog or something when I actively seek it.

I got roped into watching fairly meh movies last night. I can never decide if I like Anne Hathaway or not. I'll see her in one thing and enjoy her and then see her in something else and be annoyed by her. I'm also starting to really enjoy Patrick Wilson, though I'm still baffled by casting him as Dan in Watchmen.

Also what are the odds of watching two completely unrelated movies with basically the same twist back to back? Cause that happened last night and it was kinda weird.

Class trip tomorrow! Yay! But we're not going to the movies anymore. Boo.

Also also... they've apparently cast Thor (the guy who played Kirk's dad in Star Trek) and I can actually see him working. I really hope they go the Don Blake route and not the Ultimate Thor route. (Hot doctor with a cane and a sexy nurse > Guy with a beard who everyone thinks is crazy and his Barbie jailbait.) In fact his picture here really looks like Don Blake.

Now if they can just cast Captain America so I can stop freaking out. =(

P.S. Fanbabble about Booster Gold on Batman: Brave the Bold later.

Jerry Bruckheimer better be really, really thankful that Jake Gyllenhaal has amazing abs.

Like really, really, really thankful... he should probably send them a thank you note.

I went to see it yesterday. So glad I did.

So it's been a while since I did a proper update so I'm gonna try and hit the high points...

School: Finally started using MediSoft in Medical Office Procedures. It's not as bad as I was expecting, but I still haven't hit the simulations yet so that could change. Competency testing for us is this coming Wednesday. Class trip to the OKC Omniplex/science museum is on April 28th. I also finally enrolled for next year and hopefully I'll get to be a full time student this time.

Movies: Finally saw Twilight... Peter Facinelli as a blonde is just so wrong. I find it kind of funny that I saw two movies in less than a week where the best part involved a Muse song. Also I will not lie... I saw The Day the Earth Stood Still for Jon Hamm and Jon Hamm only. I honestly couldn't tell you much that happened when he was on screen. The scruff was super hot.

Books: I bought the next three Sookie Stackhouse books (Living Dead in Dallas, Club Dead, and Dead to the World). I'm almost finished with the second Night Angel book. So good. I love a series where I can actually end up liking characters I once despised. Vi has gone from "snoozefest" to "how wonderfully bitchy". Also I must stop myself from shipping Kylar and Vi since I know he won't end up with her. I also bought Confessions of a Shopaholic couple of weeks ago.

Television: Stupid Kal Penn liking stupid politics. This season of House has been so... all over the place. There's only a handful of episodes left and while I'm really not looking forward to yet another "omg Cameron is like totally in love with House!" thing or a "House could have been super happy with [insert female character here], but he pushed her away because he's a miserable wreck" thing we all know he can only be happy with Wilson, I am interested in seeing what they do for the finale. (Hopefully there will be Wilson goodness.)

I also gutted and restuffed my section of our Netflix with all the TV I've been putting off watching. I'm working through Jeeves and Wooster right now (I finished season one. I'm once again totally smitten with both Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.) and then it's on to Mad Men and Supernatural.

Video Games Persona: I'm in October with Persona 3. It is such fucking bullshit that you only get the best character for a month. I'll miss his badassness and the completely awesome way he used his Evoker. I still don't know how I'm going to manage The Answer side of P3 since it's equivalent to the hard version of The Journey. I expected epic fail from me though.

Manga: I'm still not caught up on Fullmetal Alchemist or One Piece. I am caught up on Reborn! though and I must say I'm glad the girls are getting their say. Though Haru is still a million times better than Kyoko. I'm also current with xxxHOLiC (I only care again because Doumeki and Watanuki are staying with each other now) and Tsubasa (What the fuck has happened to this series? Just tell me if Kurogane and Fai go off to be gay ever after so I can stop caring about this headache inducing clusterfuck.)
queendork56: (Default)
I finally got 100% with LEGO Batman! I enjoy that Ra's has Nightwing's move set and Hush has Two-Face's.

In other news... Fuck you, Fox. Fuck you where the sun doesn't shine. Thank you for killing any interest I had in the Wolverine movie by completely and totally butchering Deadpool. Really. Thanks. You make Wade not happy. >=( (See these three links: 1 2 3. Last one contains spoilers for said movie.)

RE: Question of the Day

Twilight = NO Please stop talking about this overhyped crap. (I'm talking to you, Entertainment Weekly. Seriously... stop sucking off Twilight, EW.)

Whoo for Thanksgiving break! Today was the last day of school for the month. I'm glad. We've been doing telephone etiquette training for the last two weeks and we've had the county high school touring and the students participating in the phone practice. Talk about stressful for me. I passed my phone certification though and I totally aced all three in class tests on it. Whoo for me!

I feel like the ice is finally broken in class. I feel more comfortable talking to my classmates now. I was nominated for replacement parliamentarian for our BPA, but I lost (which was good cause I didn't want it anyway.) I'm trucking right along in my work. I've got four certifications done in two months so I'm feeling pretty good. I'm working on office procedures at the moment.

Went and bought Wall-E and Tropic Thunder yesterday. (Oh! I also got my financial aid check yesterday so whoo!) I haven't watched Wall-E yet, but Tropic Thunder was awesome. Best fucking Tom Cruise movie ever. Robert Downey, Jr. was completely awesome. (Loved the fake trailer for Satan's Alley. Wonder Boys will forever make me laugh now that RDJ and Tobey MaGuire are Tony Stark and Peter Parker. Also note to self: Get RDJ icons.)

I also saw Kung-Fu Panda last weekend. I was surprisingly shocked by it. Dreamworks did an awesome job with it. The action scenes were great. They're really stepping up their game. I just wish they didn't want to make a sequel to every single one of their animated films (though I do want to see Madagascar 2.) Also Monsters vs. Aliens looks fun. (Can it plz be 2009 so I can do the 100 movie thingy?)

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we're having a housewarming party on Sunday. Plus I'm going to my aunt's company Christmas party next month. So much going on. Though it's a vast improvement over how much was going on last year.

Anyway... food time... then adorable robot movie time.

P.S. Satellite Internet fucking sucks.
queendork56: (Default)
So I'm gonna be moving soon. We're buying a house and we're supposed to be closing on Wednesday. This means I (finally) get my compy back! Whoo! It also means I'll be getting a new computer soon. Man it will be awesome to be able to run more than two things at a time. I'll also finally have time to actually play the gob of video games I've gotten this year. Poor FFXII... I haven't touched you in forever.

My sexy Gundams... I am missing them. D=

I finally dropped the big hint that I want all four seasons of House for Christmas (you know by pointing at them in the store and saying "I want that for Christmas." It was super subtle.) I also plan on getting myself Persona 4 for Christmas. Now I just need to figure out what to get everyone else...

I passed my first cerification at school on Wednesday (we didn't have school on Thursday or Friday.) Whoo! I also enrolled to get college credit through OSU Okmulgee. Double whoo!

I need a haircut. My bangs are seriously getting on my nerves. They're at the annoying length that's too short to stay in a pony tail, but too long to be anything by annoying. It's driving me crazy.

I'm also tempted to by a rename token and some extra userpics (even though I can't seem to fill up the 49 slots I already have.)

Oh I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the other night. It wasn't bad. Still can't be Last Crusade, but really nothing can. Some of it was pretty WTF, but I enjoyed the little moments.

And finally... OMG TERRA IS FINALLY CONFIRMED FOR DISSIDIA! WHOO! NOW IF ONLY SQUARE WOULD HURRY UP AND REMAKE FFVI FOR SOMETHING.
queendork56: (Default)
I started school today! Whoo! But I spent most of the time filling out paperwork and not doing anything! Smaller Whoo! I was worried about being behind in the class since I'm starting late, but it seems to be a go at your own speed type thing so that's all good.

I forgot how quick classes go back when you take them in the afternoon. I'm basically taking the second half of the school day I took in high school (about 2 hours and 15 minutes) and it just flies by... even when you're not doing anything.

I'm going to (finally) get a cell phone sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'm gonna take the phone my aunt just got a couple of weeks ago (since I totally said I liked it before she did and since the screen is too small for her :D).

I went to see Eagle Eye on Saturday. It wasn't bad. A bit over the top, but it had some pretty cool action scenes. Plus (for some reason that I still don't understand) I kinda like Shia the Beef.

My aunt and uncle got back last night from Indiana. His sister is doing good. They had to do another surgery this morning, but the doctors are still optimistic about everything and say in the seven to ten days she should be able to go home. A foundation that works out of the hospital is gonna cover her medical bills, which is good since she had two brain surgeries now.

Oh! New season of Amazing Race premiered last night. I'm not too keen on any of the teams so far... I'm not really not keen on anyone either. But give it time, even if I don't find someone to cheer to the win I'll find someone to cheer to go away.

And now for food... yay food!
queendork56: (Default)
I haven't really had much to post about over the last few months, but now that there's actually quite a bit of stuff happening I feel it's time.

Living with someone new is hard. But I'm getting used to it. (Sharing a computer is hard when you're so used to having it all to yourself.) We're trying to get a house that's a couple of miles down the road now that we've gotten the payout from mom's life insurance. Hopefully it'll come through and by winter we'll be in a toasty new house (and I'll have my compy back.)

I was hoping to go to a tech school here last month, but I missed getting in. So I got kinda depressed and tried looking for a job which never panned out. But I got the news about 15 minutes ago that a spot opened and I can start Monday. Classes are in the afternoon from 12:15 to 3:15.

We did get bad news last night though. My (almost) uncle's sister had a stroke and is in the hospital in Indiana (she was on her way to Michigan.) They left last night at about nine to go and see her. They're planning on being back by Monday for work and everything.

I still miss Mom. I think about her at random times. It's been rough sometimes. I'm so used to her coming home at five and then us cooking together and then talking about random stuff. I wish I had spent more time that was just us.

Lighter side of things... I'm totally and completely addicted to House. Why did I not watch this sooner?! It's like someone crawled into my brain and made a show just for me. I also saw a bit of the last Supernatural season. It was pretty good. I wish it was in syndication somewhere so I could catch the earlier seasons. The new Heroes season looks awesome (though considering season two... just about anything looks awesome.) How I Met Your Mother is making me super happeh since my ship since the beginning is almost canon! Whoo!

I've been watching a lot of movies lately. The Dark Knight was awesome, but a part of it just didn't click with me. I felt Iron Man was the better superhero movie this summer (of course my longstanding love of RDJ could be clouding things there.) Speed Racer was kind of crap. It was worth it for Rain and Patrick from Coupling though.

Also I can't stop going to [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. Like at all. It calls to me.

To peace...

So my mom passed away on April 6th. It's been rough. I moved in with my aunt and her boyfriend and things are kinda bumpy every now and then. I'm not up for writing a lot about it right now though.

My birthday is tomorrow. I'll be 23. Ugh. I'm not looking forward to it.

I went to see Iron Man last night. It's the first time I've been to see a movie in the theater since Batman Begins. (I sorta gave up on going to the movies since I rarely seemed to come out feeling like the movie I had just seen was worth the ticket price.) I have to say that I was not disappointed. Iron Man was just awesome. Easily one of the best comic book movies I've seen. The whole thing just worked together so well. Robert Downey Jr. was just amazing (I love him) and I think that was what made the movie just an enjoyable ride. I'd love to go and see it again. (Also the trailer for The Dark Knight was awesome. Cannot wait for that movie.)
