[your son had a good heart]
Sep. 21st, 2005 09:46 pmOkay... LOST makes my brain hurt. x_x *shakes fist* Curse you totally confusing plot!
I feel like I'm gonna burn in Bleach hell because I'm not all "OMG!!!!1!! Rukia is back and is the same as before!!! OMGBBQ!!!" and not worshiping Kubo for the mess that this new arc is. The Rukia fanboys/girls are gonna roast my buns because I'm not all *sparklehearts* I think Rukia is gonna be the Sasuke of Bleach for me. The character I mentally stab every time they show up or are mentioned by someone for being lame and uninteresting. (OMG! Go Hinamori for moving up my Bleach ladder!) Why do I usually end up disliking the main male and main female character in shounen mangas?
I need to rant about something other than Bleach though. I'm reading Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich (one of the Stephanie Plum books) and I still don't like Ranger/Stephanie. She belongs with Joe dammit! So not cool. >_<
I have a headache from LOST and my cat's meowing for no apparent reason. I'm going to finish Paradise Kiss and then go to bed.

Date: 2005-09-21 08:05 pm (UTC)I said it somewhere today... if I have to see someone kick Ichigo in the face I'd rather it be Isshin. It's funnier that way.

Date: 2005-09-21 08:09 pm (UTC)Now, I just read the translation (missed it this morning) and that one line does seem...cheesy (fuck, it is) and I'm an IchigoxRukia fangirl. I'm still glad to see her violent streak is around but isn't this the same Rukia who think emotions are useless?
Ishida is still MIA. Chad done ran off with the parakeet. Isshin is still living a lie. Will we ever get some closure?

Date: 2005-09-21 08:14 pm (UTC)Hell no.
I want Ishida back. He better be all up in 197. I want Ishida in every panel dammit. He needs to come back and make this story good again.

Date: 2005-09-21 08:19 pm (UTC)I miss my Shunsy. Everybody needs a drunkard in their life.
This isn't a very good week for Bleach. Crappy chapter and a filler episode.
Clarissa, this is the you that I always kept in my heart. *bursts into sparkles*
Kill me now. Please? LOL

Date: 2005-09-21 08:26 pm (UTC)I also can't believe that Chizuru had no reaction to them boobies. That "massive rack" comment had better had come from her. >_>
A real bad week. I think the best news was that Hanatarou/Kon character single thing... which scares, interests, and confuses me all at once.
*sparkles* My world it totally okay now that you've said that. I feel like the last 100 chapters of my life never happened and a crazy dude isn't trying to take over my body! *leaps with joy*

Date: 2005-09-21 11:09 pm (UTC)Rukia may have the bulk of the dialogue but I have to disagree that she is being a "queen bee." Except for the line about "the 'you' in my heart" (which someone re-translated for me as "This is the man I believe you to be, Ichigo"...that made more sense), Rukia makes little to no reference to herself. She is all about helping Ichigo to re-focus on who and what he wants to be: a protector. Everything she says is about Ichigo and for Ichigo. Even the bowing down to Orihime is for Ichigo because Ichigo wanted to do that in 195 but he wimped out. It doesn't matter that she may still harbor doubts about herself or how she behaved during the SS arc and that makes sense. Why? Because this chapter ISN'T ABOUT RUKIA. It is about Ichigo with Rukia as the voiceover.
And yeah, I would've liked Isshin to take charge, but it ain't happening for whatever reason and honestly, that makes a kind of sense too because I don't think that Ichigo would listen. Teenage boys can be funny with their fathers, especially if said boy finds out that said father has been keeping a big ass secret.
So it was left to Rukia to give him the tough kick that he needed. That's not a bad thing because it fits their relationship and her lack of sentimentality fits Ichigo.
And in spite of the joy that Ichi_Ruki fans had at the reappearance of Rukia, the potential love interest role is not Rukia but Orihime. (In fact, this arc has spotlighted Orihime to the point where I'm gritting my teeth every time I see her big eyes and I never did that before, but you know what? That's my problem and no one else's and I'll get over it.) Rukia also has not shown any extra special powers other than having a fierce kick so her role appears to be very, VERY limited which is why I'm not sure why people are getting snippy about her.
But can I ask you this: If you didn't like Rukia emotional and you don't like her in the tough "teacher/friend" role she has with Ichigo, what is it that you are/were looking for?

Date: 2005-09-22 05:52 am (UTC)I want her to act like the last one hundred chapters happened. Rukia at the end of the Soul Society arc was nice piece of character. She made a decision for herself and seemed to be trying to deal with all the stuff that happened to her. But now she's back to being the spunky girl sidekick.
I'm way over Ichigo's attitude as well. I really liked that he was getting angsty trying to deal with his inner Hollow, but his whole act is starting to wear thin.
How has this arc spotlighted Orihime? She's been there about the same amount as she was in the beginning of this arc as she did at the beginning of the Soul Society arc. When used her shield against the sweeper thingy and then healed Jinbandou's arm I thought she would get all kinds of attention in Soul Society arc, but she didn't. Kubo has said that Orihime will play a bigger part in the story, but that doesn't mean it will have something to do with being Ichigo's love interest. Hell that could mean that Aizen will target her because he wants to give Gin her fairies for a birthday present.
Rukia also has not shown any extra special powers other than having a fierce kick so her role appears to be very, VERY limited which is why I'm not sure why people are getting snippy about her.
Because that's wasting time and space. Instead of letting Rukia come back to kick Ichigo we could have, I don't know, moved on with this arc already. I'm going to be snippy about it here because this is my journal and I can be snippy about anything I want to be snippy about.

Date: 2005-09-22 11:47 am (UTC)I apologize. I should have used a different word than "snippy" because that came out antagonistic when that wasn't my intention. I'm just curious about the reactions. The range of it baffles me.
I have questions about the story but Rukia's role in this chapter was very precise. My son called it her Yoda moment so I guess I didn't see her as the "spunky sidekick" but more as a tough, concerned friend who came out of a tough time herself and knows how fruitless it can be to sit around and wallow.
The Ichigo act of "I want to protect" does wear thin. I was talking to another person and we agree that it may be the weakest part of BLEACH. The need to protect for Ichigo is both his character's strength and weakness.
And I've always said that one of the reasons why I enjoy Orihime with Ishida is because while Ishida wants to protect (and delivers too), he was not above recognizing, accepting and appreciating what Orihime did for them when they were a team. He brought out the best in her so that she could have her moments to protect and he had his own. And while he used to go around declaring that he wants to protect but after the Menos incident, he learned to keep his mouth shut. He's learned from his mistake and (crossing my fingers) he doesn't make the same one. And when he protects, he just does it. That's why I miss Ishida's presence. He and Ichigo want the same thing but how they go about it is very different.

....
Date: 2005-09-22 11:06 am (UTC)So yeah this arc is a mess just because he is not telling anything clearly enough for us to see what happens next.
But i think Ishida HAS to appear within the next chapter, he just has to.
